BADARPUR, Dec 3 - Two express trains will run on the Silchar-Guwahati broad gauge route by Christmas. This was assured by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Karimganj MP Radheshyam Biswas informed The Assam Tribune.

I have personally met Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu and submitted a memorandum to him and discussed in details regarding the importance of running some express trains on the Silchar-Guwahati broad gauge route for the greater interest of the people of Barak Valley. After the discussion, Prabhu assured me of running two express trains Samparka Kranti Express and Kanchanjhanga Express on this line by December 25, the Holy Christmas Day. The trains will run up to Kolkata and Delhi.

The same assurance was also given to a BJP Cachar unit delegation which met Prabhu recently in New Delhi, Biswas said.

During his meeting with Prabhu, Biswas had demanded immediate launching of the Intercity Express from Silchar to Dibrugarh, daily express trains from Silchar to Delhi and Chennai, the Janasatapdi Express and also the Rajdhani Express to New Delhi.

The Karimganj MP pushed this idea by explaining that such train services could soon be extended up to Agartala, Aizawl and Imphal.
