2-day meet of dermatologists

GUWAHATI, Aug 29 - The Dr KN Barua Institute of Dermatological Sciences, located at Roodraksh, Bhangagarh, organised a daylong conference on �Skin in endocrine disorders� for all dermatologists of the North East at a city hotel recently.

The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, Prof DC Borkotoky, former professor, Dept of Medicine, GMCH, and guest of honour Dr DM Thappa, Director, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong. The event was attended not only by eminent skin specialists and postgraduate students from all over the Northeast, but also by reputed faculty from Endocrinology and Gynaecology.�

Taking part in the discussions, the specialists spoke on how the younger generation, due to their unhealthy lifestyle, increased stress, lack of physical activity, etc., are found to be increasingly suffering from metabolic disorders, which, besides affecting their internal organs, also sometimes have manifestations in the skin. Excessive growth of hair in females and acne in adult women due to PCOD, darkening and thickening of skin especially on the neck and underarms on weight gain, appearance of soft growths on skin mostly of neck and underarms, called skin tags, are some of the examples. Latest modalities of treatment and use of cutting-edge technology, such as lasers, for removal of unwanted hair was also discussed.
