2-day lecture series at city college

GUWAHATI, March 29 - The Department of Philosophy, Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College here organised a two-day lecture series sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICRP), Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, on March 28 and 29, according to a press release.

The first lecture on the topic �Religions of the world: Unity in Diversity� was delivered by Prof Manisha Baruah from the Department of Philosophy, Gauhati University who threw light on all the aspects of the different religions of the world which contribute towards evolution of a universal religious consciousness. Earnestness in sincere prayer leads to the realisation of a religious unity amidst the diversity of approaches, she added.

The second lecture was on the topic �Nature of Knowledge� delivered by Pradip Khataniar. In his lecture he explained different kinds and sources of knowledge in Indian and western perspectives.

In the third lecture on �Peace and Conflict Resolution: A Gandhian Approach�, Dr Jagadish Patgiri spoke on the different aspects and perspectives of peace and conflicts. He underscored the importance of Gandhian approaches in resolving conflicts at different levels of human socio-cultural and political existence.

The event was attended by the teachers and the students of the college who also had very fruitful interactions with the resource persons.

Earlier, the lecture series was inaugurated by the college Principal Dr Sikhamoni Konwar and Prof Manisha Baruah.

Dr Marami Choudhury, head, Department of Philosophy of the host college, anchored the entire programme, while Rajab Ali, Assistant Professor, coordinated it. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Nurul Islam, Asst. Professor.
