2 BSF jawans killed in ambush

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Aug 6 Suspected NLFT militants on Friday killed two BSF personnel by triggering off an improvise explosive device (IED) at a remote place adjacent to the Indo-Bangla border in Dhalai district.

The BSF jawans of 101 Bn were conducting routine patrolling along the international border at Ratia where erection of barbed wire fencing was going on. When the troops reached Ratia, 18 km from Chowmanu police station at around 9.15, militants triggered an IED explosion resulting in critical injury to two jawans.

Since the area was remote, both the injured jawans Bajrangi and Arup Das were airlifted to GB Hospital here. While Barrangi died on way to the hospital, his companion Arup succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Sources said, insurgents might have carried out the attack on the BSF personnel from the Bangladesh territory. The attack was aimed to stall the erection of barbed wire fencing along the Chowmanu-Govindabari in Dhalai district.

Senior police and BSF officials rushed to the spot and heavy reinforcement has been made to arrest the attackers, said NC Das, DIG Police Control. The security along the border has been strengthened to foil any kind of untoward incident, he said.

DIG, BSF, AK Singh said, It is suspected that some ultras were also injured in the incident but it could not be verified.

Combing operation have been launched in the area.
