2 Bangladeshi women arrested from Karimganj

SILCHAR, Dec 14 - Two Bangladeshi women were arrested from South Manikona village under Girishganj Police Station in Karimganj district on Wednesday. Another person, who sheltered them, has been nabbed as well.

According to sources, based on specific information, a raid was conducted in the house of Sahab Uddin (52) at South Manikona village under Girishganj Police Station near Bangladesh border and arrested one Golapjan Bibi (85) and her daughter Shabana Begam (32).

Police also arrested Sahab Uddin for sheltering the Bangladeshi women.

Police informed that during initial interrogation, Golapjan Bibi admitted that they are residents of Sheola locality under Sylhet division in Bangladesh. They came to India two months ago and crossed the international border through Gajukaata area in the border district. She also informed that they were being helped by Sahab Uddin in their attempt to cross the border.

Police sources added that Sahab Uddin has records of human trafficking.

Later, the women were sent to jail custody by a Karimganj court and Sahab Uddin sent to police remand.
