2 Assam Rifles men killed in Manipur ambush

IMPHAL, March 31 � Two personnel of the 44 Assam Rifles were killed while one sustained injury in an ambush by suspected militants near the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur�s Ukhrul district today.

The incident took place when the suspected militants attacked the Assam Rifles team which was moving to their Konkan post, by exploding an improvised explosive devices and by indiscriminately firing on them at a place between Kamjong and Kongkan, about 165 km north-east of Imphal under Kamjong Police Station in Ukhrul district around 6 am, reports reaching here said.

However, following the hour-long gun battle, the militants fled towards the forest area.

The injured personnel have been taken to the military hospital in Imphal. The deceased personnel were identified as Havildar NK Dolly and Havildar BN Kshetri, while the injured person was identified as one RB Shastra.
