2 Assam girls chosen for Lakm� Fashion Week

GUWAHATI, July 5 - Two models from Assam will sashay down the ramp at the Lakm� Fashion Week Winter/Festive season that will be held in Mumbai in August this year. Judged winners of the first ever female model auditions in the North East by the popular fashion event, Suzzane Baker and Jahnabi Deori from Guwahati have got the opportunity to walk the ramp.

Lakm� Fashion Week, jointly organised by the popular cosmetics brand in India along with IMG Reliance Ltd, organised the event here on Monday in association with the North East Fashion and Design Council (FNDC). The initiative aims to nurture the fashion talent in the region.

The jury comprised celebrities, fashion experts and stalwarts from the Indian fashion industry, including Atsu Sekhose, celebrated fashion designer; Sonalika Sahay, leading model; Barsha Rani Bishaya, popular Assamese actress; Purnima Lamba, head of innovation, Lakm� and Jaspreet Chandok, vice president and head of fashion, IMG Reliance Ltd.

To celebrate the traditional heritage of the region, local couturiers, Payal Chadha, Mitrani Kakoti and Kashmiri Nath and Jyoti Kr Nath were given a platform to style the six semi-finalists. The models walked in specially curated traditional mekhela chadors replete with intricate embroidery, motifs and vibrant colours, which became the grand highlight of the event.
