2 arrested for raping minor girl in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, July 13 - Pasighat Police have arrested two persons for allegedly raping a minor girl at Ngopok village under Mebo subdivision of East Siang district.

The incident happened on Tuesday last when a 45-year-old man entered the eight-year-old girl�s house and committed the offence even as her parents were working on the agricultural field.

The victim�s father lodged an FIR at the Pasighat Police Station following which the alleged accused, Bukyang Yirang, was arrested from Ngopok village on Wednesday. The police have registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC and Section 4/6 of the POCSO Act, and started an investigation.

Meanwhile, during counselling, the victim also revealed the name of another man who has been allegedly raping her. Following registration of a suo motu case, the accused, 22-year-old Getem Ratan, was arrested on Thursday, the police said.

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee has strongly condemned the rape and demanded justice for the victim. The Pema Khandu-led BJP Government has been maintaining a stoic silence over continuous occurrence of such criminal activities in the past few years. The victims were not compensated and criminals not punished, it alleged.

Women Against Social Evils, a Pasighat-based NGO, also condemned the alleged incident of rape and demanded exemplary punishment to the accused persons.
