2 arrested for hunting, sale of wild meat

ITANAGAR, Jan 11 - Two persons were arrested on suspicion of hunting of a large Indian Civet and trading its meat in Shi-Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh.

On getting the information on hunting and sale of wild meat, a joint team of Forest and police officials led by West Siang Divisional Forest Officer Abhinav Kumar on Friday raided a roadside shop near Hirgo village in Shi-Yomi district and found a large Indian Civet displayed for sale. The dead animal was taken into custody and the two accused were arrested.

During the operation, it was found that the roadside shop is used for displaying and selling wild meat to the passengers and passersby.

The accused have been produced before an Executive Magistrate and a case has been filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Aalo under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, said an official press release here.
