IMPHAL, Sept 28 Three persons, including two Assam Rifles personnel and a civilian, were killed, and six others including four Assam Rifles Jawans and two civilian women sustained injuries in a bomb blast that took place in Manipurs Chandel district bordering Myanmar this afternoon.

The incident took place near Kwatha Khunou junction along Imphal-Moreh road about 100 km south of Imphal, when suspected militants exploded a powerful Improvised Explosive Device around 1.15 pm.

The injured four Assam Rifles and two civilian women have been sent to a nearby hospital in Imphal for treatment, reports reaching here said. The two deceased Assam Rifles personnel, who succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital, have been identified as Jagendra Kaushik of Uttrakhand and Kewal Singh of Rajasthan both Riflemen.

Condemning the incident, the PRO of Assam Rifles in a statement said, It shows the frustration among the insurgent groups, who are frustrated because of large numbers of their cadres deserting their camps and surrendering to the SF (Security Forces). The Assam Rifles will not be deterred by such violent and nefarious action of the underground outfits and will continue to encourage misguided youths to joint the mainstream, the statement added and urged all militant groups to come forward for peace talks.

Though the Assam Rifles suspects the hand of CorCom (Coordination Committee of seven major militant groups) in incident, no militant group has claimed responsibility till the filing of the report.
