2 American couples adopt differently-abled children from Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 10 - Two differently-abled children were formally handed over to two American couples for adoption in North Lakhimpur on Thursday. The two children, Kalyan and Puja were handed over to Jaffrey Pierson Whaley and Stephanie Marie Whaley and Luke Edwin Nelson and Lucia Wade Nelson respectively from Alabama, USA in a function held in North Lakhimpur.

A meeting was organised by the Lakhimpur district administration, police, judiciary and the child adoption NGO on that occasion at the conference hall of Lakhimpur ZPC. The meeting was chaired by Dr Jeevan B, DC, Lakhimpur district and attended by Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Narayan Kuri, officials from the district child welfare department and members of Jagriti Sanmilita Unnayan Kendra, Bangalmara, an NGO.

The differently-abled children were inmates of Morom, a sister concern of Jagriti Sanmilita Unnayan Kendra, Bangalmara, from where the American families had made contacts for adoption. Speaking on the occasion, Jaffrey Whaley and Luke Nelson expressed their gratitude for arranging the official formalities for the adoption of the differently-abled children from the NGO. They assured a bright future for the children and the full necessary treatment in the US. They also thanked the entire staff of Jagriti Sanmilito Unnayan Kendra and Morom for taking care of the abandoned children over the years. Officials from the NGO � Bhupen Changmai, Gautam Kumar Saikia and Abu Sayed Khan were also present on the occasion.
