2 adult elephants electrocuted

By Correspondent

JALUKBARI, Sept 26 - In a tragic incident, two elephants were electrocuted after they came into contact with a lowly hanging live power line at Bakrapara village of Rani in the wee hours today.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Rani Range Officer Manoranjan Barman said that the mammals came out of the Rani Reserve Forest to the village in search of food around 3 am when they came into contact with the power line.

According to local people, the live wire came down due to the incessant rainfall during the past few days and the power department authorities did not take steps to restore the line to its original position. The elephants both adults included a male and a female and their carcasses were buried on the outskirts of Bakrapara village after post mortem and related protocol. The incident cast a pall of gloom in the area.
