By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 17 - Driven by the responsibility of minimising the environmental hazards, especially emitted by the construction sector, Shine Realtors Private Limited, a city-based real estate developers, today laid the foundation for the first-ever green housing complex in the North East region in city's Gotanagar area.

"This would be the first such complex in the region, which is expected to be completed by December 2011," said PK Das, director-projects, Shine Realtors Private Limited while talking to this reporter.

Named as Shine Shanti Greeno, the residential complex is being built on the concept of 'green living for a greener tomorrow' developed keeping in mind the restoration of natural resources.

Das further added that aspects like rain water harvesting and use of solar energy would be some of the salient features of the complex. "The occupants would be able to enjoy all the modern-day facilities, but with lesser harm to the environment. Besides, the safety of the occupants would be ensured better in these kinds of construction," he pointed out.

The energy efficient complex though would be priced a bit more than what the conventional construction costs, the developers believe that the buyers would eventually be benefited in the long run because of its unique low-emission features.

While dwelling on the concept further, SP Gon Chaudhuri, managing director, West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation Limited, urged the Assam Government to make green building concept popular keeping in view the threats emerging from global warming.

"In West Bengal, any construction worth more than Rs 3 crore must abide by the green building concept. In Assam, something of this sort would be very instrumental in minimising the hazards caused by big construction," Chaudhuri stated, appealing to the authority concerned to offer incentives to attract people towards the concept of green housing.

Solitaire Project Solutions, Kolkota, which was represented by Arindam Mukhopadhyay, head project management, has been assigned as the project consultant.
