19th Ramesh Chandra Saharia memorial talk held at Tangla

KALAIGAON, Feb 11 - The 19th Ramesh Chandra Saharia Memorial Lecture was held on February 8 at the RC Saharia Teachers� Training College at Tangla.

The memorial lecture programme was organised by the Ramesh Chandra Saharia Educational Trust. The function was presided over by noted writer and poet Professor Idris Ali.

In her welcome address, Mridula Saharia, wife of late Ramesh Chandra Saharia spoke on the objectives of�organising�the memorial lecture, especially at Tangla. She also mentioned that the primary aim of the trust was to promote education and work for socio-economic development and welfare of poor and needy people.

The memorial lecture was delivered by Kamal Nayan Choudhury, senior advocate of Gauhati High Court on, �Foreigners Problem of Assam: A Perspective�. Choudhury shed light on various aspects of the foreigners problem.

Earlier, Professor Idris Ali in his presidential address recalled the contributions of late Ramesh Chandra Saharia towards development of Darrang district, especially in the education sector.

Dr Dipankar Saharia, who is a scientist and social worker and happens to be the son of late Ramesh Chandra Saharia, also spoke on the occasion on different activities being undertaken by the Ramesh Chandra Saharia Educational Trust, especially in the educational sector and its involvement in the realisation of dreams of late Saharia for uplift of the poor and deprived section of the State in general, and the backward population of undivided Darrang district in particular.

Rama Kanta Barua, Dr Hara Kanta Das and Bisti Kumar Basumatary, besides eminent citizens, teachers and students of RC Saharia Teachers� Training College attended the lecture.
