GUWAHATI, June 1 The Kamrup Metro district administration and the District Transport authorities have started a drive against autorickshaws not complying with rules and regulations in the city.
During todays drive, 19 autorickshaws were seized for operating without fare meters and six others were seized for overcharging passengers.
Officials said the drive against autorickshaws will be intensified in the coming days.
The administration had said last month that an enforcement drive for city autorickshaws will be carried out from June 1 regarding the issues of fare meter installation as well as rationalization of auto fares, illegal plying and violation of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The drive has been undertaken as a follow-up to the decision taken during the meeting of the Regional Transport Authority in May. The Transport Department had fixed the fare of petrol-driven passenger autorickshaws in October, 2013. But there were complaints that the autorickshaw drivers do not follow the rates fixed by the Government and are arbitrarily taking money from customers.
