188 nominations filed for Arunachal polls

ITANAGAR, March 23 � In all, 188 nominations have been filed for the polls to the 60 seat Assembly in the hilly State of Arunachal Pradesh, besides 11 papers filed for the two Lok Sabha seats in the State.

Though the filing of nomination papers ended last evening, the exact number of candidates in the poll fray, particularly in Assembly election came in just this evening � the reason being �poor� communication network.

Arunachal Pradesh is going to hold simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha on April 9 to elect members for its two parliamentary seats and 60 Assembly members.

The ruling Congress has fielded candidates for all the 60 Assembly seats, while the principal opposition BJP fielded candidates in 50 seats followed by People�s Party of Arunachal � 20, NCP � 12 and NPF � 11. New entrant Aam Aadmi Party has fielded just one candidate.

Eleven candidates are in the fray for the two Lok Sabha seats � eight for the Arunachal West seat and three for Arunachal East.

Both sitting MPs of the Congress � Takam Sanjoy and Ninong Ering (also Minister of State for Minority Affairs), and former BJP MPs Kiren Rijiju and Tapir Gao will try their electoral fortunes from Arunachal West and Arunachal East seats respectively.

Besides Sanjoy and Rijiju, the West seat is set to see the fight from labour leader-turned-politician Jalley Sonam of PPA, AAP�s Habung Payeng, Taba Taku of Lok Bharati, Gumjum Haider of Trinamool Congress, NCP�s Gicho Kabak and Independent Subu Kechi.

While in the East seat, a triangular fight is likely among Congress party�s Ninong Ering, BJP�s Tapir Gao and PPA�s Wangman Lowangcha.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on March 24, while the last date of withdrawal of candidature is March 26.
