18.56 lakh voters to decide fate of 15 candidates in Dhubri HPC

DHUBRI, April 22 - Dhubri HPC with 2450 polling stations and over 7500 polling officials, in its 10 Assembly constituencies is going to the polls tomorrow.

Addressing the press, in the Deputy Commissioner�s Conference hall, ADC Animesh Talukder, said that by 5 pm on Monday, all the polling officials along with one constable and one home guard for each polling station reached their designated stations.

He also informed that special provisions for the all women polling stations have been made, keeping in view their safety and security. In the entire Dhubri constituency there are 29 all women polling stations, out of which 11 are in the Dhubri Election District, that comprises Dhubri LAC, Gauripur LAC and Golokganj LAC.

Meanwhile, a total of 18,56,168 electors will decide the fate of as many as 15 candidates, that includes political stalwarts like AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal, who will be challenged by AGP candidate Jabed Islam, Abu Taher Bepari from the Congress and NI Choudhary from the Trinamool Congress.

Although a few hiccups were reported from various EVM distribution centres in the constituency, later the matters were resolved by the administration.

However, the administration has also taken care of the polling stations without electrification. �We have spoken to the APDCL to facilitate such polling stations, while charging lights have been provided to the polling agents where such facilities could not be provided. In a few polling stations, generators have been hired where more than one booths are located�, Talukdar said.
