182 new cases in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Sept 5 - In one of the highest single-day spikes, Meghalaya reported 182 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours. The active cases in the State have now shot up to 1,374.

Most of the new cases were reported from the East Khasi Hills district where random testing is being carried out. The district reported 121 of the new cases. In the past few weeks, most of the cases reported in the district were those of armed forces personnel. However, only five armed forces personnel tested positive today, while the rest of the infected persons are all civilians.

As reported earlier, employees at the Meghalaya Secretariat also tested positive and a massive sanitization drive of the office buildings is currently on, which will continue till tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Director of the State Health Service, Aman War, said that so far nine employees of the Meghalaya Secretariat buildings (Main and Additional) have tested positive.

Among the other districts, Ri-Bhoi reported 31 cases, out of which 11 are armed forces personnel, East Garo Hills district 15, West Garo Hills district 12 and North Garo Hills reported two cases.

In the past 24 hours, 59 patients have also recovered, taking the total recoveries in the State to 1,527. Till today, 97,550 samples have been sent for tests, out of which 94,418 have tested negative and the reports of 216 are awaited. Fifteen persons have also died of the infection.
