18 test positive in NL after second round of swab tests

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, May 31 - In all, 18 new COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in Lakhimpur district following a second round of swab tests after the initial results tested negative.

According to Lakhimpur district health department officials, the aforementioned 18 persons returned to North Lakhimpur from Hyderabad and Kolkata respectively and were released from their quarantine centres on May 24 following COVID-19 negative results of their swab tests.

As per records available, 16 among the discharged persons were quarantined upon arrival at the Panigaon-based OPD Collegewhile two others were kept in the NEEPCO Guest House in North Lakhimpur.

As 25 persons were kept under quarantine at OPD College as they tested positive for COVID-19 on May 25, the already discharged 18 negative persons were again brought back by the Lakhimpur district health department on May 26.

The previously negative-tested 18 persons were traced to their villages in Dhakuwakhona, Bihpuria, Narayanpur and other places and again kept under quarantine at various hotels in North Lakhimpur from where their swabs were collected and sent for testing for the second time on May 29.

Incidentally, all of them tested positive as their swab reports came from the ICMR laboratory at Lahowal, Dibrugarh on Saturday night. This resulted in the number of COVID-19 positive persons in Lakhimpur district swelling to 48.
