AIZAWL, July 16 - Thirteen Assam Rifles personnel and five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were among the 29 fresh COVID-19 cases detected during the last 24 hours in Mizoram.

With the 29 new cases, Mizorams COVID-19 tally has climbed to 267, of which 108 are active cases.

An official source said that 295 samples were tested at the Zoram Medical College laboratory here, of which 24 came out positive. Five BSF jawans were confirmed positive after 26 samples were tested at the TrueNat laboratory of the Lunglei District Civil Hospital on Wednesday.

The 24 fresh positive cases detected at the Zoram Medical College laboratory include three women and a three-year-old girl. The 13 positive cases among Assam Rifles jawans were quarantined at the paramilitary forces headquarters at Zokhawsang near here. One of the infected is a National Disaster Response Force staff. Nine others are from Lawngtlai district, who had returned from Assam and Bihar.

Except the NDRF staff, who has already been admitted to the Zoram Medical College with symptoms, all the others are asymptomatic.

The five BSF men who tested positive at Lunglei are those who were stationed in the Vanhne camp near Lunglei. They are asymptomatic, and are primary contacts of BSF personnel who had earlier tested positive.

According to an official source, 82 of the active cases in the State belong to the paramilitary forces (Assam Rifles, BSF and NDRF), which account for 75.92 per cent of the total active cases.
