DIPHU, June 23 - After the recent setback in Dima Hasao, the Congress has suffered a major blow in Karbi Anglong district as well, with as many as 18 MACs and EMs of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), led by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang, formally joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party office here today.
They joined the saffron party in the presence of the State BJP general secretary Vijay Gupta, president of the East Karbi Anglong district BJP Lanki Phangcho, Diphu MLA Sum Ronghang and Bokajan MLA Dr Numal Momin. They all were accorded warm welcome and felicitated with saffron caps of the BJP.
Interestingly, the BJP refused to take into its fold three Congress EMs � Premola Beypi, wife of former State Hill Areas Development Minister Kharsing Engti, Alice Engtipi, sister of Kharsing Engti, and Ashok Teron.
Those who joined the BJP today included 14 elected and four nominated MACs and EMs.
