17 candidates file papers in Dhubri

DHUBRI, April 4 - Altogether 17 candidates have filed their nominations for the 4-Dhubri Lok Sabha seat, till the last day of filing nomination for the constituency.

Political stalwarts, including AIUDF chief and two-time MP of the constituency Badruddin Ajmal, former MLA Abu Taher Bepari , Jabed Islam and Sukur Ali filed their nominations for the Lok Sabha seat.

Sukur Ali, while speaking to this correspondent claimed that development would be his main mantra. �I have full faith in Indian democratic system and I am hopeful that people will understand my dreams and will trust me,� he said. Ali has been closely associated with various social activities.

Meanwhile, Uttam Kumar Roy from Kamatapur Progressive Party (KPP) has filed his nomination papers before the Returning Officer on Thursday. The KPP was constituted in 1995 and since then it has been participating in elections.

Apart from these names, senior advocate Nur Islam Choudhary from Trinamool Congress, Surat Jaman Mondal from SUCI, Zahidul Islam Khan from Purvanchal Janta Party (Secular), Nripen Das from (Bharatiya National Janata Dal), Alakesh Roy from Hindustan Nirman Dal, Mehbubar Rahman from Republic Party of India and Shajahan Sheikh from Voters Party International have filed their nominations, while Rukunur Zaman, Mir Hussin Sarkar, Anamika Sarkar, Asrof Ali, Selina Sultana have filed their nominations for the constituency.
