161 new cases in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 24 - With the detection of 161 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Manipur, the active cases have increased to 9,537 in the State today, officials said here.

�In the past 24 hours, 131 persons from the general population and 30 Central Armed Police Forces personnel were confirmed positive,� said Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director of the Manipur Health Department in a press release on Thursday.

The civilian patients are from 10 districts of the State, the release added. Seven of them are returnees from other States, while the rest 124 are local residents without any significant travel history.

In the past 24 hours, 261 persons were also discharged from eight COVID care facilities after they were found negative after RT-PCR tests, the release stated. Of the cumulative number of 9,537 cases, the active and recovered cases stand at 2,106 and 7,369 respectively. The recovery rate is 75.26 per cent.

As of Thursday, 3,76,808 people were screened at various entry points of the State, while 2,21,490 samples were tested.
