16,000 new voters in Hailakandi dist

HAILAKANDI, Jan 23 - Around 16,000 new voters figure in the newly-published voters� list of the three legislative Assembly constituencies in Hailakandi district.

The Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Malay Bora in a press conference on Wednesday said that the people may contact the nearest election officials if anything is found incorrect in the newly-published voters� list.

Bora informed that the total number of voters in Hailakandi Assembly constituency is 1,48,734, and of them 77,960 are male and 79,774 are female. Similarly, in Katlicherra constituency, there are a total of 1,61,252 voters and of them 84,992 are male and 76,260 are female. The total number of voters in Algapur constituency is 1,42,882, of which 77,443 are male 65,439 are female.

He further said that the number of polling stations in each of the three constituencies has also been increased. Now the total number of polling stations is 555. Earlier, it was 537.

In Hailakandi, three new polling stations have been added to make the total number 183. In Algapur, seven new polling stations have taken the total to 177, while Katlicherra has seen the addition of eight new polling stations, with the total now numbering 195 polling stations.

The Hailakandi Superintendent of Police, Rajen Singh, who was also present in the press meet, informed that preparation of security measures for the ensuing Assembly election has already started in the district. He said that there will be armed security personnel in all the polling booths of the district. He also stressed the need of generating awareness among the common people for overcoming any untoward incident during election time.

The press meet was also attended by Election Officer Rajib Roy, District Development Commissioner Baranya Das, EACs Sarfaraj Haque and Ruthliang, besides representatives of all the registered political parties of the district.
