16 Tinsukia district villages hit by flood

DOOMDOOMA, Sept 27 - Following torrential rain in Upper Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh since the last 48 hours, the water level of all the major rivers, namely the Brahmaputra, Noa-Dehing, Doomdooma and the Tirap in Tinsukia district have been rising alarmingly and inundated several villages, including standing crops.

According to a report received from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Tinsukia, three villages, namely Laika Rigbi, Laika Pomua and Laika Phasediya under Tinsukia Revenue Circle with a population of 2,976 have been inundated by the surging water of the Brahmaputra.

On the other hand, 13 villages in Amarpur area under Sadiya Revenue Circle with a population of 6,255 were affected by the fourth wave of flood this year.

Moreover, a vast tract of agricultural land in the district was also inundated by this wave of devastating flood, damaging the paddy as well as the rabi crops standing in the fields.

In the meantime, the district administration distributed relief material among the affected people. According to the DDMA report, the water level of the Brahmaputra at Dholla, Noa-Dehing at Chumoni, the Doomdooma at Doomdooma, the Tirap at Mullang (Ledo) have been maintaining a rising trend while the Kundil at Chapakhowa and the Buridehing at Margherita are maintaining a receding trend.
