16 students for yoga olympiad

GUWAHATI, June 16 - Sixteen students from the State have been selected for participation in the National Yoga Olympiad, 2016 to be held on June 21 in New Delhi. They were selected from among 55 students from 11 different districts of Assam who had participated in the State Yoga Olympiad 2016 organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Assam at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, on June 10.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is organising a National Yoga Olympiad among schoolchildren on June 21 in New Delhi as part of celebration of International Yoga Olympiad, 2016.

Every state will have to send 16 selected students. A girl student of Dudhnoi Residential Training Centre and an orphan child studying at Sundarbori ME School were also among the students selected from Assam.

Earlier on June 10, Rakesh Dev of Prajapita Brahmakumaris Ishwariya Bishwavidyalaya, Rupnagar, inaugurated the olympiad by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

The open session held on the occasion was attended by Preetom Saikia, Commissioner and Secretary, Elementary Education; Thaneswar Malakar, Mission Director, SSA Assam and Mamata Hojai, Joint Director Secondary Education, Assam.

Sewali Devi Sharma, Director, SCERT, Assam cum Joint Secretary, Elementary Education and Dr Nirmali Hazarika, Deputy Director, SCERT, Assam and coordinator of the Yoga Olympiad were also present.
