16 persons without identity documents picked up in Imphal

IMPHAL, Oct 2 - During an operation at Alu Gali here, Manipur Police picked up around 16 non-local persons without any identity documents. A team of Imphal West Police conducted the operation at Alu Gali and the adjacent Thangal Bazar in the afternoon.

Similar operations were also conducted by Imphal East Police at Mahabali in the Palace Compound on Wednesday morning.

Sources said that Manipur Police have lately stepped up vigil to identify illegal immigrants in the State. However, the police did not mention the issue of illegal migrants for the heightened security.

The fresh operations have been launched at a time when the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) announced a fresh drive against �illegal immigrants� in the State from October 2.

While announcing checking of entry of �illegal immigrants� into the State through the national highways, new JCILPS convener Kh Dhiren said the drives would also be carried out to verify �non-locals� in different parts of the State.

Coinciding with the JCILPS�s announcement, the police conducted operations at various areas on Wednesday.

IMFL seized: Manipur Police seized a truck laden with 600 cases of banned Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) late last evening. The seizure was made by Imphal West Police during checking of vehicles on the NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road).

Imphal West Additional SP (Operations) Amarjit Lamabam today said that the banned liquor was seized from a truck proceeding to Imphal, at Moidangpok under the Patsoi PS in Imphal West district. Two persons have been detained in this connection, he added.

Import of IMFL into the State is banned under the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991.
