151 �critical� polling stations in Karimganj

SILCHAR, April 5 - Ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 18, Karimganj Police has announced that special focus will be given to 151 �critical� polling stations out of 1065 stations across the district.

Talking to mediapersons on Friday, Karimganj SP Manabendra Dev Ray said, �we have identified as many as 151 critical or hypersensitive polling stations and 121 sensitive polling stations across the district and we are ready to combat any kind of untoward incident during the polling hours. Strict vigil will be maintained and as many as 3000 security forces including 12 companies of CRPF and two platoons of Assam police shall be deployed in those stations to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the election.�

Further, the SP informed that over 400 voters living on the no man�s land along the Sutarkandi international border shall be facilitated by the BSF and state police to come and cast their votes on the day of polling. However, all kinds of movements will be stopped 48 hours before the election and vigil will be intensified to check any attempt of unauthorised entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India through the 92kms international border. Already, BSF and border police have been put on alert to keep close eye on the movements, he added.

Dev Ray further informed that the district administration has earmarked five all-women polling stations in the district in which women security personnel will be deployed along with polling officials. Also, there will be a model polling station, he said.

It may be mentioned that 13,13,469 voters including 6,28,189 female voters will exercise their franchise in the election for the Karimganj (SC) Lok Sabha seat split into 18 zones and 84 sectors.
