150th Gandhi Jayanti to be celebrated online

SHILLONG, Sept 28 - The Director of Arts and Culture has informed that commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 would be held online in view of the ongoing pandemic. �All proposed activities will be on online mode and on virtual platforms,� officials said on the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti. The Arts and Culture Department has also designed a special logo for the Meghalaya celebrations by incorporating the pan-India �150 years of celebrating the Mahatma� logo.

A dedicated Facebook page, �Department of Arts and Culture � 150 years of Mahatma� has also been created, to serve as an umbrella platform for hosting all the events on online and virtual mode. Meanwhile, some of the events proposed to be celebrated on the occasion includes a special webinar on the theme: �Celebrating the Mahatma� in collaboration with Synod College management at the Synod College.

An online display of photographs of Mahatma Gandhi will be unveiled on October 2 based on archival photographs in the custody of the Department of Arts and Culture, and donated by Allahabad Museum.

Display of contemporary paintings and visual art through online mode reflecting the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, a dance recital on the concept of Gandhian Spinning Wheel will be performed by Gitanjali Dance Academy through the virtual mode, are among other programmes lined up.

Moreover, a quiz competition on, �Life, work and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi� will be held on October 2 for participants within the age group of 16 to 25 years. A formal prize distribution ceremony will also be held on Gandhi Jayanti, limited to not more than 20 participants and prize winners at the State Central Library auditorium, the department said.
