SIVASAGAR, May 10 - A total of 15 drug peddlers were arrested by Nazira police from various places of the town following reports of smuggling of narcotics like brown sugar from neighbouring Nagaland.
The arrested men have been identified as Javed Rahman, Nishant Baruah, Ganesh Berma, Pranjal Gogoi, Arunjyoti Bailung, Anis Akhtar Ali, Bijay Kalita, Debabrat Bora, Bidyut Ghashi, Chandan Borgohain and Babu Mohan. Four more persons � Washim Hussain, Hirokjyoti Chutiya, Bhaity Doley and Dhrubajyoti Kalita, all from Dibrugarh � were arrested on April 26.
Police has appealed to all guardians to keep vigil on the movement of their wards and asked them to inform police if they find anything suspicious.
Leopard captured: Forest department officials captured a leopard in a cage placed at Moran Natun Nagar near the Tiloi Beat Office. The leopard with three cubs had been roaming around the tea garden areas, killing cattle. The three cubs have not been recovered yet, while the mother leopard was released at the Joypur Reserve Forest in Dibrugarh district.
Donation to Assam Arogya Nidhi: ONGC Retd Employees Association Sivasagar president Deva Bharali and secretaries Lalit Kalita and Dilip Saikia handed over a cheque of Rs 75,000 to Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Lakhinandan Gogoi for Assam Arogya Nidhi as their contribution to the government in its fight against coronavirus. The Sivasagar Doul Unnayan Samiti also contributed Rs 1 lakh to the Assam Arogya Nidhi.
