GAURIPUR, March 31 - The full-fledged 14th session of the Dhubri District Sahitya Sabha was held on the premises of Paglahat High School with a day-long programme on March 30.
Abul Hasan SK, outgoing president of the Sabha hoisted the flag of the sabha and smriti tarpan was performed by Rabindra Nath Ray, president of the reception committee. Tarani Kanta Ray, vice-president of the Sabha and Rajendra Nath Mandal, retired headmaster planted the saplings.
The open session was presided over by Dr Upendrajit Sharma, newly-elected president of the district body. The souvenir Ratnapith was released by Panchu Gopal Chakrabarty, ex-vice-president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha. Dhirendra Nath Adhikary, assistant secretary, Asam Sahitya Sabha and Panchu Gopal Chakrabarty attended the session as invited guests. They, in their speeches, appealed to the members of the Sabha to work hard for widespread popularity of Assamese language and culture in the western part of the State as the so-called leaders of some communities tried to divide the people on language and cultural lines. Panindra Nath Adhikary lit the earthen lamp in the evening and the cultural evening was formally declared open by Pulakesh Roy Bepari, organising secretary of the All Assam Students� Union. The delegates meet held earlier passed several resolutions to strengthen the Sabha.
