140 gold bars seized in Manipur

IMPHAL, Aug 18 - In a major catch, the personnel of Assam Rifles arrested one person and seized 140 gold bars weighing 23 kg and valued at Rs 6.9 crore from his possession. The seizure was made during a routine check at Tengnoupal in Tengnoupal district on Thursday, according to Assam Rifles sources.

The gold bars were recovered from a bus (MN 04 7351) carrying wooden planks when the troops intercepted the vehicle at Tengnoupal check post. The gold bars were kept in small packets. On opening the packets, gold bars weighing approximately 23 kg were recovered.

The driver of the bus Md Kamal Hassan of Kwakta in Bishnupur district revealed about the gold bars that were concealed in the bus. The person was later handed over to the authorities stationed at Moreh town.

Assam Rifles personnel also arrested one drug peddler for carrying heroin and brown sugar valued at Rs 2.52 crore at Khudengthabi Check Post in Tengnoupal district around 11.45 am on Friday.
