14 Myanmar nationals held while crossing border

IMPHAL, April 8 � Jawans of 31 Assam Rifles arrested 14 Myanmar nationals while attempting to cross over the international border near a border village on April 6 night, a late report reaching here said.

PRO, Assam Rifles, in a release here said the arrested foreign nationals were mostly from Arakan area of Myanmar and they were handed over to Moreh police station for further action.

On interrogation, it was revealed that there were four more accomplices and two Indian mentors involved in this illegal human trafficking racket, the source said and added that two additional columns were launched at general area Pangal Basti of Moreh town, which resulted in apprehension of six more persons.

Meanwhile, in continuation of its relentless efforts in clearing each and every part of Samtal area in Manipur�s Chandel district, the jawans of 37 Assam Rifles recovered and destroyed one improvised explosive device and one lathode bomb while clearing an area near the village Aibol Joupi in Chandel district on Tuesday, thus preventing any casualties of villagers, PRO, Assam Rifles, said in a press release.

Similarly, troops of 43 Assam Rifles detected three IEDs in general area Shalwang Dung close to the international border in the same district Wednesday.
