14 DPS students injured in road mishap

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - Altogether 14 students of Delhi Public School located at Ahom Gaon here, sustained injuries in a road accident that took place this morning.

According to police the accident took place when a bus of the school hit another bus of the same school. The incident took place in Lalung Gaon area on the national highway.

�Both the buses were moving in the same direction on their way to the school and according to eye witnesses, the mishap took place when a pedestrian was trying to cross the road and the driver of the first bus had to press the emergency brake following which the second bus hit it from behind,� Amar Ghosh, in-charge (Traffic) of Gorchuk PS told The Assam Tribune.

Ghosh said all the injured children were immediately taken to a nearby private hospital and all of them are now out of danger. In connection with the incident the police also questioned the drivers of both the buses.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, the father of an injured child alleged that the driver of the bus was solely responsible for this incident.

�After the incident we, a group of parents, met the management of the school and demanded of them to rectify all issues related to the school buses. We need a proper speed monitoring system on every school bus and seat belts for the safety of children,� he said.

The injured students were Dhanistha Kashyap, Piya Senapati, Rishima Choudhury, Tunav Kashyap, Khanak Beriya, Yuvraj Jyoti Deka, Dishant Talukdar, Daksh Goyal, Dhruv Roy Chowdhoury, Mili Jain, Aanaiya Mazumder, Vihaan Kargwal, Janadrit Barua and Subhangi Mitra. They are students of classes IV and V.
