138 apply for Cong tickets for LS polls

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 � In all, 138 applications have been received by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) seeking party tickets for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the State.

Today was the last date for submission of applications for the purpose. The final list of Congress nominees of the State for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls is likely to be published by the first week of February.

APCC chief spokesman Mehdi Alam Bora told this newspaper today that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has directed its State units to complete the meetings of their district election committees by January 19 and the meetings of their respective State election committees by January 21 for the purpose of preparing the lists of their nominees for each of the Lok Sabha constituencies from among the applicants.

These lists are to be sent to the central election committee of the AICC, which will then finalize the lists of the State Congress committees, Bora said.

He also informed that in accordance with the AICC directive, the APCC election committee will meet in the city on January 21 and send its recommendations to the AICC central election committee subsequently.
