By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 3 - Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthis Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) has demanded bonded labour status for the 13 child labourers who were rescued from different parts of Guwahati in the last couple of days.

After rescuing four child labourers on Wednesday, the BBA along with police and other line agencies today rescued another nine children from Beltola and Lal Ganesh areas of Guwahati.

The operation was done under the supervision of Assistant Labour Commissioner M Rahman.

The children were rescued from dhabas and an automobile repair shop today. They were working under hazardous conditions. We want the authorities concerned to declare them as bonded labours so that they can be made beneficiaries of the Central sector Rehabilitation of Bonded Labour Scheme as per which an amount of Rs 3 lakh would be given to the victims as compensation, Rakesh Senger of BBA told this reporter.

Senger said that the BBA would take up the issue with the authorities concerned.

He said that FIRs would be lodged against the owners of the dhabas and the automobile repair shop and the cases will be followed up so that it can act as a deterrent.

One of the victims hails from Uttar Pradesh, while the others are from Sonitpur, Barpeta and Kamrup districts.
