NEW DELHI, Aug 28 � Contrary to perception, the North Eastern States including Assam have the lowest number of people living with HIV.
As per the estimates of 2012, the total number of people living with HIV in 2011 in India was 20,88,642.
According to the Department of AIDS Control, Andhra Pradesh has the highest number of people (4.19 lakh) living with the dreaded disease.
On the other hand, in the NE, Assam has only 12,804 people living with AIDS, Manipur 25,369, Nagaland 9,710, Mizoram 5,346, Arunachal Pradesh 1,156, Meghalaya 2,381 and Tripura 5,684.
