125 years of Barowari Durga Puja Mandap

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 � The Uzanbazar Barowari Durga Puja Mandap is celebrating its 125 years of Durga puja with an 11-day programme. The celebration started with hoisting of the �Jayanti flag� by president of Puja Mandap Badal Thakur on September 23. Mass lighting of earthen lamps was held in the evening on the same day. The 11-day cultural programme has been assisted by the State Bank of India. This was stated in a press release.

A colourful cultural procession �Santi Yatra� was held on September 27. The procession was brought out through the main thoroughfare of Uzanbazar area. A children spot drawing competition was held on September 27 in two groups. The results of the competition are: Group �A� (seven years to ten years), first � Iftikar Rahman, second � Priyangsu Kalita, and third � Bankim Pathak. Consolation prizes � Jugandhar Boro. Rittik Das and Jinti Barman. Group �B� � (eleven years to fourteen years), first � Archita Bhattacharya, second � Adwitiya Goswami and third � Tanmay Sarma. Consolation prizes � Arjina Begam, Rittik Das and Dwipannita Baruah.

A district-level �Mahila Durganam� competition was held on September 28 where around 20 groups from different parts of the district took part.

The other programmes scheduled to be held are � Mohilar Nagara Nam on September 29, Lakshminath Bezborua memorial satirical evening on October 1. �Bandana�, a programme of devotional songs will be held on October 2, �Taal�, a dance choreographed on �Mahisasur Badh� will be held on October 3.
