120 octogenarians felicitated

GUWAHATI, May 23 � The silver jubilee celebration committee of the Gamarimuri Gopathan Mandir in connection with its Hom Bhatheli function, accorded warm felicitation to 120 octogenarians at a function held recently on the temple premises, a press release said.

The three-day programme of the Hom Bhatheli function began with cleanliness drive and flag hoisting followed by lighting of lamp by Gopeswar Sarma, Nandiram Barman and Sidheswar Barman. Later swahid tarpan was performed by Pramod Baishya. Rajendra Nath Chakraborty and Kabiram Barman performed the sapling plantation work.

The felicitation function began at 11 am under the chairmanship of Ramesh Kalita, president of the celebration committee. In the function, 120 octogenarians of Uttar Dharmapur were accorded warm felicitating with a garland, a phulam gamosa and a Ganamala as a mark of honour. Dr Basanta Kr Bhattacharjyya, prominent litterateur, Dr Om Prakash, DC of Nalbari, and Himan Barman, organising secretary of the AASU also attended the meeting. Dr Om Prakash, the DC of Nalbari, lauded the initiative taken by the celebration committee. The function was conducted by Ramcharan Baishya.
