GUWAHATI, July 21 - As many as 12 minors including a 14-year-old girl, were rescued from the clutches of human traffickers at the Rangiya Railway Station early this morning. Kamrup Police also arrested one of the traffickers from the spot.
Acting on a tip-off, members of the NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) and a team of Kamrup Police foiled the trafficking bid and rescued the children who hail from Udalguri and Sonitpur districts.
Rakesh Senger, project director, campaigns and victims� assistance, BBA, informed The Assam Tribune that the children were being taken to Bengaluru and just when they were about to board the Bengaluru Express at Rangiya Railway Station, the BBA team along with the team of Kamrup Police and the Government Railway Police, intercepted them.
The arrested trafficker has been identified as Kamal Daimary, who was also involved in a number of previous trafficking cases in the State.
The children, mostly belonging to Bodo and Adivasi communities, were being taken to Bengaluru for engagement in a fishery and allied industry.
