BARPETA, Oct 21 - At least 12 workers were injured when a fire broke out in a local fireworks industry here this afternoon. Out of the injured, nine are females, two adolescent and one adult male. The condition of six of the injured is stated to be critical.
According to information, the fire started when a fire cracker accidentally burst in at around 4.30 pm today in the cottage industry of one Dip Pathak that produces indigenous fireworks. As the cracker burst, the entire campus was engulfed by fire and the workers had little time to escape.
All the injured have been admitted to the FAAMC here. As the fire tenders arrived on time, a massive calamity was avoided as the fire could have spread to neighbouring areas which also house a few such industries.
