SILCHAR, Aug 31 � As many as 12 candidates have filed nomination papers for the ensuing Assembly by-election in Silchar constituency.
In Lakhipur, there are five candidates with one pulling out on Saturday, the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Polling in both the constituencies will be held on September 13.
Among the candidates in Silchar, Dilip Paul from Bharatiya Janata Party and Arun Dutta Mazumder, the Congress nominated contestant are gearing up for poll battle. Rajdeep Goala, son of late Dinesh Prasad Goala, the former minister and Lakhipur MLA is also contesting from Lakhipur constituency. Joymati Devi, independent candidate from Lakhipur has withdrawn her nomination.
