GUWAHATI, Aug 1 - For the first time after the country�s independence, the Assam government is going to set up high schools in tea gardens of the State.
Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced that 119 high schools will be set up in the tea gardens, work for which will begin from October 2.
�An amount of Rs 1.19 crore has been earmarked for the project. The construction work should be completed before the next academic session. We are hopeful that from April 2021, we will be able to enroll students and appoint teachers and other staff,� Sarma said.
The State government has also decided to provincialise 3,359 teachers under the Directorate of Secondary Education and 355 high school and junior colleges within this year.
Along with that, 931 college teachers will also be provincialised. Further, 30 colleges will also be provincialised, Sarma said.
The first list of provincialised colleges and schools will be published on August 15, and the second list in October. The announcements will be effective from January 1, 2021.
The State Government on Saturday said it has decided to introduce Science stream in as many as 16 colleges of the State.
