11 villages identified for Gram Swaraj Abhiyan

HAILAKANDI, April 19 - As many as 11 villages of Hailakandi have been identified for the implementation of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, a Centrally-sponsored village self-governance campaign for the overall development in the district.

Several programmes were conducted with active participation of the citizens of the village panchayats on �Swachhta� (Cleanliness), officials informed.�

The selected villages are Polarpur, Bakrihowar Part II, Bakrihowar Part III, Narainpur Part IV, Borbond Part III, Borthol FV, Harishnagar Part I, Dholai-Molai Part VI, Gharmurah FV, Jakabpur FV and Ramnathpur Forest Village.�

Shramdaan�was taken up by the GPs by cleaning and digging twin pit toilets in the villages. Door-to-door awareness was created on the importance of using toilets, health and hygiene.

Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Adil Khan�urged the panchayat representatives and the people to co-operate whole-heartedly in the mission.�

Closely monitoring the implementation of the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan scheme, the Deputy Commissioner directed the PHE and other concerned departments to take urgent steps to make the gram panchayats clean.�

Chairing a review meeting�on Tuesday, he directed the officials to focus on those GPs which are yet be covered under the scheme. Entrusting the task of organising the multi-phased event with the district heads of several departments, Khan told the officials that Central observers would review the progress of the scheme soon.

�The district heads of the concerned departments have to ensure effective implementation of all activities to be carried out during the campaign,� he said.�

The campaign aims at making the villages saturated in seven flagship pro-poor programmes , including Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (clean cooking fuel), Saubhagya Ujala scheme (LED lights), Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (financial inclusion), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (life insurance), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (accident insurance) and Mission Indradhanush (health mission).�

All households in the 11 villages will be provided LPG connections as part of the campaign. Oil marketing companies in association with the district administration will organise Ujjwala Diwas tomorrow.�

�The Ujjwala Diwas programme will promote enhanced target of enrolling 100 per cent LPG gas connections in the targeted villages. Gas cylinder and LED bulbs will be provided to eligible beneficiaries during the campaign,� said Khan.�

On�April 24, Rashtriya Panchayati Raj Diwas will be held during which seminars, awareness programmes would be organised from gram panchayat to the district level on the themes of women empowerment, women health, vaccination and social development. �

The Deputy Commissioner further said that on�May 2, the agriculture department would organise Kisan Kalyaan Karyashala in order to double the income of the farmers.
