GUWAHATI, Nov 17 - Eleven persons were detained by Borjhar police for impersonating as Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) last night.
The arrested persons have been identified as Drimon Krishna Goswami of Baihata Chariali, Kousik Bhuyan of Barpeta, Jnanendra Das of Nalbari, Ganesh Das of Pathsala, Nayanjyoti Goutam of Nalbari, Joymoni Sharma of Nalbari, Bijoymoni Sharma of Nalbari, Dwijen Sharma of Nalbari, Rupam Sharma of Nalbari, Saurav Sharma of Baihata Chariali and Ripunjoy Goswami of Baihata Chariali.
A case has been registered at the Azara Police Station and investigation into the matter is under way. Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Debaraj Upadhaya said that the team was formed by Drimon Krishna Goswami with some ulterior motive.
�We noticed that they had been roaming around here for the last one month. We are carrying out an investigation to find out their motive,� Upadhaya added.
The deception was exposed after a police patrolling party detained four persons in uniform near MES point at the airport. �They were found loitering near the airport wearing uniforms unauthorisedly. Subsequently all the persons in uniforms were apprehended,� a police source said.
The police also seized fake ID cards, other documents, five bikes and a four-wheeler from their possession.
Police sources said that the mastermind Drimon Krishna Goswami issued fake appointment letters and identity cards to the other ten arrested persons. He was a BDS student pursuing his studies in Bhopal.
Drimon recently returned home and hatched the plot. After giving fake IDs to his accomplices, he brought them to Borjhar area and instructed them to carry out patrolling in the western part of the city, the sources added.
