11 more COVID-19 cases confirmed in Manipur

IMPHAL, May 28 - With 11 new positive cases, the COVID-19 tally in Manipur has risen to a total of 55. The active cases stand at 50, the State Health Department stated in press release today.

Meanwhile, in a separate release, the COVID-19 Common Control Room here said, �A case who was admitted in the COVID care facility of JNIMS was found COVID free yesterday and has been discharged today.�

Earlier, four COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery. The total recoveries in the State have now reached five.

All the 11 new cases were confirmed in the VRDLs (virus research and diagnostic laboratories) of the RIMS and the JNIMS. The patients will be shifted to the COVID-19 care facilities at the RIMS and the JNIMS. Informing that the condition of the new patients is stable, the release added that all necessary control measures have been put into place.

Meanwhile, stranded people belonging to Manipur continue to arrive by train and plane. Two special trains � one each from Kerala and Gujarat � had arrived at the Jiribam Railway Station. So far, 17 special trains have arrived in the State with more than 10,000 people. Similarly, around 173 people have reached the State in flights. All the train and plane returnees have been sent to quarantine centres after necessary medical formalities, reports said.

In another development, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh held a meeting with Health Department officials and UNACCO school authorities on establishing a temporary 100-bed COVID care centre at the UNACCO School here today.

In a tweet, Biren Singh said, �Meeting held with concerned officials of the Health Department, Health Mission and authorities of UNACCO School, Meitram, Imphal West, on establishing a 100 bedded temporary covid care centre at the school for treatment of only COVID patients of the State.�

Meanwhile, public donations continue to pour in for the Chief Minister�s COVID-19 Relief Fund. The Manipur Home Guard Employees Welfare Association, Manipuri Association Canada and public leaders from Haipi village have donated to the fund.
