11-day Raas festival at Tihu from Nov 6

GUWAHATI, Nov 3 � Brisk preparations are on to celebrate the 62nd Tihu Raas Mahotsav in Nalbari district with a 11-day programme starting November 6. This was stated in a press release.

A celebration committee with Sankar Kumar Das as president, Durgesh Choudhury as working president, Harekrishna Medhi, Promod Deka, Kanak Baishya, Sunil Pawan Pathak, Bhabananda Sarma, Prafulla Kalita and Utpal Choudhury as vice president, Karuna Kalita and Sushil Das as joint secretaries, Bharat Talukdar, Mantu Kalita, Nagen Haloi, Dipjyoti Pathak, Nayanjyoti Kalita, Bijoy Talukdar and Apurba Pathak as assistant secretaries, Ananda Deka as finance secretary and Khagen Deka and Hiren Bhattacharjya as office secretaries has been formed for smooth conduct of the festival. Several sub-committees have also been constituted to supervise different activities of the festival.

Like in previous years, this year also the main attraction of the festival will be the exhibition of clay idols depicting different Gods and goddesses, as also great personalities of the contemporary times. This Raas festival will be inaugurated by Sarbananda Sonowal, Central Sports and Youth Welfare Minister.

The other programmes of the festival include seminar, competition, drawing competition, recitation and felicitation programmes etc.

The celebration committee has also planned to publish the souvenir Muruli on the occasion and it will cover all aspects of the Tihu Raas festival. Muruli will be released by Haider Hussain, prominent journalist. It may be mentioned that cultural evenings have been planned on all the days of the festival.

The president and the secretary of the celebration committee have requested all the religious-minded people of greater Tihu area to participate in the Mahatsav in order to make it a grand success.
