JORHAT, June 1 - Altogether 11 persons � including two on Sunday evening � were released after they recovered from COVID-19 from the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH).
A woman, Gita Rani Guria (26) of Tingkhong (Tinsukia) and a girl, Kiran Paswan (15) of Lichubari, on the outskirts here were presented gamosas by the JMCH authorities before their release.
The Principal of JMCH, Professor Atul Boro, Superintendent Dr Purnima Barua, who is also an Associate Professor in the Microbiology Department, along with district administration officials were present on the occasion.
It may be mentioned here that first two recovered patients (both women) were discharged on May 20 evening by the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati.
Both the patients, who were returnees from Mumbai, became emotional while thanking doctors and medical staff of the institute during their discharge from the COVID wing of JMCH.
Mamu Bora (36) of Ujoni Charaimoria, on the outskirts here, who broke down while coming out of the COVID-19 wing, told mediapersons that after remaining in Mumbai for a year for her son�s cancer treatment and then all the way returning by road and then testing positive for COVID-19 was an ordeal.
However, she said that the kind of care and compassion shown by the doctors and the supporting staff of the JMCH towards them and her son was something that touched her heart the most.
Mamu�s younger sister, Parishmita Dutta Kalita of Charingia, on the outskirts here, said, �Initially, we were afraid after coming to know about testing positive but JMCH Superintendent Dr Purnima Barua, doctors and staff gave us courage and took good care of us. Now we are going out with a positive mind.�
