10th anniv of Milon Chora

GUWAHATI, Sept 3 - Socio-cultural organisation Milon Chora celebrated its 10th anniversary in the conference hall of the social welfare department at Beltola here on Sunday. It is a city-based organisation of people hailing from Baligaon in Jorhat.

On the occasion homage was paid to the great personalities, including educationists, freedom fighters and social workers of Baligaon like Durgadhar Barkataki, Devananda Sarma and Pandit Devendranath Sankhyatirtha.

Several persons including Prasanna Barthakur, Pranab Barthakur, Partha Pratim Baruah, Pankaj Pujari, Lohit Bezbaruah, Jayanta Sarma and Archana Sarma recited the dialogues of the drama Banshadhar by noted playwright Prafulla Bora, which was staged at the Sankaradeva Kalakshetra recently.

Presiding over the function, senior journalist DN Chakravartty said that Baligaon, which was the meeting ground of the Koch and the Ahom kings for the signing of a boundary agreement in the 16th century, had, during the British period, produced eminent personalities such as upper Assam�s first graduate Jagannath Baruah, entrepreneur Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah, writer and administrator Satyen Barkataki, freedom fighters Gangadhar Barkataki and Annada Devi Barkataki, and educationist Murulidhar Baruah.
