GUWAHATI, June 14 - The National Lok Adalat, in its latest sitting, has disposed of 1,068 cases related to the Motor Accident Claims (MAC) in the State.
A total of 3,707 cases were taken up by the Adalat for settlement in the sitting held on June 11. Further, the amount awarded in the MAC cases stood at Rs 25,78,01,742, official sources stated.
Of the total cases, the maximum number of cases that were disposed of belonged to Kamrup district. Of the 1,198 cases that came up before the Adalat from Kamrup, as many as 194 were disposed of. A total of Rs 11,01,82,000 was also awarded to claimants in the said district.
Districts like Cachar (329 cases) and Sonitpur (32 disposed cases) recorded settlement to the tune of Rs 2,81,81,900 and Rs 1,09,80,000 respectively. Nagaon, too, recorded settlement of MAC cases amounting to Rs 1,51,14,000.
Among the other districts that recorded most disposals of MAC cases were Barpeta (90), Nagaon (60), Dhubri (60) and Hailakandi (54).
In addition, 43 cases concerning the Gauhati High Court Legal Services Committee were also disposed of on the day of sitting.
The statement of disposal also stated that not a single case of MAC was disposed of in Udalguri district from where 17 cases were taken up. From Morigaon district, too, only a single case was disposed of.
